Casa Maria, large 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom house, with roof terraces, 5 miles from the hustle and bustle of the centre of Granada, and 35 minutes to the ski lift at Pradollano.

Casa Maria is a typical traditional rustic style Spanish house, built on 3 levels, situated in one of the oldest lanes in the village, just 5 miles outside the centre of Granada. Traditional Spanish familes used to build an extra floor on top of the house when the children got married, so allowing a new floor for the children, but with grand family kitchens and living rooms, where the family could all meet up at meal times. This house is built in this style, and the owner "Maria" did exactly this. It is very well equipped with 4 twin bedrooms and is very large and spacious with a really fantastic large terrace viewing over the mountains to Granada. You will certainly enjoy sitting here in the evening with these views. The house used to be lived in, so it really is very well equipped indeed. It it very traditional with some old characteristic furniture for you to appreciate, as well as modern enough to make your stay an enjoyable one.

The owner (who is the cleaner of my Spanish property), will welcome you with open arms, very old fashioned and very chatty (although all in Spanish). One night she turned up with a big bowl of cherries, and the next night it was a big bowl of home grown kumkwats (I have seen them growing freely in this little lane). The old Spanish folk here, find it quite a novelty to have "a foreigner" visit their little village, and they will stop and chat and often invite you into their homes, offering you a host of biscuits and coffee - then it is a case of follow my leader (if you cant speak Spanish). So if you have a little time to explore, the Spanish people will have plenty of time for you. But dont expect any English language:-

About the location

The village itself is at the bottom of the ski mountain for the ski resort of Sierra Nevada. This is the 2nd highest resort in Europe, with a 35 minute ride round the mountain taking you right to the ski lift.

Monachil is rich in history with a famous church down in the valley, several shops, and restuarants - all within walking distance, and priced at the Spanish prices - meaning very good value for money. Monachil is made up of lots of little settlements within the mountains and you drive to the village in the winter, you can see the snow capped mountains in the back ground, being just like a post card.

The Spanish live here, so it is a village that is not subject to very much tourist activity. The shops and restaurants are open all year round, and there is a large supermarket selling fresh fish, fruit and veg, meat and huge selection of beers and wines just 2 minutes in the car, or 20 minute walk.
